Re: Importance of eyewear while shooting....important lesson
Most responsible gunowners should wear it, but sometimes you get ppl with friends and think it wont happen etc. That's exactly when it happens.

Re: Importance of eyewear while shooting....important lesson
I buy at Jonsson safety nice protective glasses. The day night one is very good.
I usually buy at least 3 pairs when we go to them. Ive got a couple in my range bag. One in every shooting box. And some in garage when I drill or grind something.
They are max R30-00. When they ge slight scratches after several months they go to garage duty before getting dumped.
Ive been to several ranges in Western cape. Where they have Eye Protection signs up. And RO's walking around. And people still shoot without them on.
On rifle ranges people usually dont put on.
But you can still have a ricochet if for example guy shoots 22lr at for example 25m. Hits a frame and a pieces comes back. Even if your sitting 2 tables away. You can get hit. Even 22lr or other calibre might hit the sand bounce hit a backstop tyre anddecide to come back.
R30-00 is cheap to save your eyes.

Re: Importance of eyewear while shooting....important lesson
I always wear even when shooting the rifle. Don't want to take a chance if there is an overcharge etc. I'm buying spares to keep for friends as well as when the kids use the air rifle. I also use the glasses when reloading.

Re: Importance of eyewear while shooting....important lesson
Couple of occasions my brass has bounced into my face- a fair few times hit my glasses.
It could take a case with a bit of a burr to do some serious damage.
Glad it wasn't more serious.
