Re: 6.5 creedmoor powder issue
Reviving this thread... Wondering if you made any headway here with Somchem? What sort of velocities and accuracy are you getting with it?
I'm about to start reloading the 6.5 creed moor and I'm looking for sort of data anyone is getting with Somchem powders. Alternatively is anyone using Vihtavuori or Hodgdon powders (I think both Varget and IMR4451 are available here).

Re: 6.5 creedmoor powder issue
Another revival.
I had the Creed on the range today.
The rifle is a bull barrelled stainless Howa fitted with a Lynx 2.5-15 x 50 with an SA hunters reticle.
The rifle is brand new[first time fireing] and i fired 5 shots using 139gr lapuas to 'run the barrel in'.I allowed the barrel to cool between shots and cleaned with Hoppes on a cloth, then a nylon brush, then a windolene soaked cloth followed by a clean cloth between shots.
I then fired 4 x groups of 5 shots, allowing rifle to cool between groups as well as cleaning as above between groups.
Load 1..Lapua cases [new]
..CCI small rifle bench rest primers
..40gr S 365
..OAL 69mm [1.2mm off lands]
..140gr Nossler accubonds
..Ave velocity 2629fps
..group size center to center on outside holes..17mm.
..S365 is lot 86.
Load 2..Same but with 41gr S365
..group size 26mm
..2699fps
Load 3..Same but with 42gr S365
..group size 24mm
..2743fps
Load 4..Same but with 42.7gr S365
..group size 23mm
.. 2810fps
I do not think i have found the sweet spot. Will settle on about 2700fps and play with seating depths as well as try some Hornady A Maxes.
Velocities seemed a bit high but no signs of pressure at all.
Normal disclaimers apply.

Re: 6.5 creedmoor powder issue
If this is your long range target or gong shooting rifle why dont you use the 140 grain Nosler ballistic tip ?
Relatively high BC and nearly half the price of the Accubonds.
If the impact velocity is suitable then their terminal performance should be good.

Re: 6.5 creedmoor powder issue
Hi Dale
Thanks a span for your input.
Saying that this is my long range target or gong rifle would be implying that i actually know something about long range shooting. Lets just say that it is my intention to use it for long range shooting but i am definitely in the learner stage and any help will be appreciated.
I will try the ballistic tips...do you maybe have a starting point for me as concerns an accurate node....yes 24 inch barrel.
I have a 6.5x55 that i hunt with,using 140gr Nosler partitions and pretty much stick within 300m.
The Swede has many thousands of rounds through it,so i may on occasion take the Creed to the veld as the Swede will not last forever.
At this stage though,i would like to shoot gongs/targets out yonder.

Re: 6.5 creedmoor powder issue
The Accubond and Ballistic tip are nearly identical lengths and will generally shoot to a similar point of impact.
Using the parameters you gave for the accubonds your accurate nodes for the ballistic tip will be very close.
Medium pressure accurate node around the 2700 fps mark and high pressure accurate node around the 2800 fps mark.
