    Default Housecall by DFO

I got a call yesterday from the DFO's office to arrange an inspection for a renewal submitted in Dec last year. The person arranging the inspection indicated it was a safe inspection, which was strange as the safe had been accepted, based on previous inspections, when I made a seperate new license application in June of last year.

Anyhow the DFO turned up this am and proceeded to unpack and inspect each firearm on the renewal in detail against the application. Apparently this is now being done regularly to ensure that the details going to the CFR are all correct and to the same standard and to check whether the firearms are in fact in possession of the applicant. He cited a few instances of inspections where the firearms on the renewal were in fact "lost".

Is this/ is this becoming a regular practice with renewals?

I see you're in Slaap Stad. Wonder if this is just a Western Cape thing with SAPS getting overly aggressive with gunners.

That's why I'm asking. DFO was completely relaxed, no queries or hassles about the 9mm with late license application or the 22 Mag on green license or ammo count, just a thorough check of the firearms on the renewal application.

Ive had my safe inspected everytime for the 4 licenses i applied for. Asked the dfo already why??? He says its dependant on the area you live in, volatility, how many people move into/out of the area, crime stats, etc..
But then again, my dfo is very thorough and to the book, but not overly unfair or daft. He will go the extra mile for the people

SamL where should I be moving too?

My DFO is pretty cool, other folk have complained but I have no issue.

Treat others as you want to be treated and all that. Respect, hint hint.

It's a Western Cape only thing at the moment.

I believe that it's a National Order to start inspecting safes, and the firearms in them against what the person is listed as owning. Starting in the Eastern Cape as well
