If reapplying, should you make reference to the reason for a previous refusal and motivate why it wasnt applicable or has been fixed, or just motivate the reason why its not applicable and make no mention of the previous refusal?

Sethm87 - on legal advice, I re-applied (as my 90days since receiving the refusal letter were up - otherwise, I would have appealed), mentioned the previous refusal, the reasons (specious as they are) for the refusal and worded my re-application to address the refusal reasons and provided more evidence of participation in support of the re-app.

And that the NCACC "refused" a Browning High Power.

    And the list goes on.

They can therefore now try and convince the representatives of the People of the RSA that the FCA is a workable system and that they can be left in control of it in any event, and that they are not actively abusing the system, and that they do not have an agenda to disarm people, by going as far as to not comply with the FCA themselves.

Thanks to all who decided to take issue with these refusals.
and your expected result in parliament, they feel zilch for 17million people that are not going to get money on 1 April and the minister has been ordered to do so by the constitutional court and still does not do it. I somehow don,t think a few hundred declined firearm licenses are going ruffle ant feathers.

    Be strong, apply and appeal

the firearm issues have not even reached court yet.

I just received an SMS stating that my first SD application was refused.
Called my DFO and he said that the motivation from the gun shop is not very good(it's a very reputable shop in overport, Durban)
The DFO wants to sell me a new motivation for R800 from someone he knows.
I'm going later today to pick up the refusal letter.

    How long do appeals take?

I'm not a member of GOSA, if I join now, will they assist, should I join?

If you appeal you cannot attach a new motivation.

Check what the refusal letter says first. Did the motivation seem lacking or generic?

I somehow had a personal feeling were going to be facing some if not alot of refusals in the coming months. the reason I feel this way. Is after they lost the ruling in court in last month. Somehow I just feel CFR wants to get us back for that loss.

I read the motivation when I submitted it about 3 months ago
From what I remember, it seems generic.

Is there any hope if I appeal, or should I reapply with a new motivation

This is true, but there are certain processes that need to be followed. CFR are not following those processes exactly and thus new (clarified) motivations may sometimes be included. This is what I understood with my appeal. But if the refusal was warranted due to a poor motivation then reapply.

Antelope. Why would you have someone else do your motivation? Unless you are not sure what you want the gun for you should be able to motivate it on paper. What did you tell your wife you need the gun for? If I were some pencil pusher at CFR seeing all these commercial apps I would also start wondering if this guy can motivate his app himself.

    Here is a good template
    To Whom it may concern...
    Name, etc
I have done.... DSS.... Competent.... citizen in good standing....
    Memberships with ...... participation.....
I want a license for...... to use in.....
no crim record... no history of substance/...... abuse etc.
    Thank for your positive consideration.

How difficult is this? None of it is made up. All of it can be backed up with proof.
If you buy a motivation and some of it isn't true to your circumstances and is questioned it could have some repercussions.

    Hi Antelope,

Please forward your details to Gosa's legal team at issueswithcfr@gmail.com.

Your DFO has overstepped the line.

Joining GOSA can only be to your advantage.
