Firearm theft - police store
Message I got this evening:
ALL CLUSTERS TO NOTE
Break-in at Peddie SAPS Firearm and SAP 13 Stores : Grahamstown Cluster EC
On 2017-03-14 at 13:00 a report was received that a break-in took place at the above police station. Indications are that entry was gained through the roof of this particular room. Currently investigations are underway and details will be provided once received.
However indications are that Cluster Commander, Brigadier Kanuka, was busy with an inspection at this station from Monday 2017-03-13 and was supposed to continue with the SAP 13 Store today. All indications point to many firearms that are missing –exact details will be provided.
Preliminary check shows the following SAPS Firearms missing:
• 9 x 9mm pistols
• 12 x R5 rifles
• 6 x shotguns
• 3 x PX4

Re: Firearm theft - police store
They want to feel part of the whole amnesty thing, they're just getting something to hand. I mean, who wants to pitch up empty handed at such a prestigious event?
Seriously though, that's really bad....

If it is true, shouldn't this "room" have conformed to strict standards? Or is just us mere mortals?

Re: Firearm theft - police store
So the break-in happened just before the inspection. They won't have to go far to find the culprits: arrest the police officers they obviously sold the firearms and staged the whole thing to cover their tracks. This is so obvious it hurts.

Re: Firearm theft - police store
The SAPS will not be able to convince the public that they can be left to safeguard any firearms, even if they go on a buying spree and buy all the rifle safes in the Western Cape and elsewhere.
Its also more of a question of integrity of the members and management of the SAPS, than it is about physical abilities to safeguard.
Those firearms for which the licenses have expired, are better off being left in the care and possession of their owners.
