    It may be very obvious, but check the oil level - some machines have a safety cut off when the oil level is low.
    I once had this issue with a diesel compressor I rented for drilling holes in stone. Even the owner of the machine who came out to sort it, (and charged me a call-out fee) could not figure it out.

    Before starting, the oil level in the sump was just enough not to activate the cut off. Once it is running, and some oil is higher up in the engine, the sump level is low enough to activate the cut off.

    When sorted out, would you be so kind to let us know what the problem was?

    Agree with Willie, seen this low oil level cut-out at work. Cost the poor owner big time, just cos he didn't read the instructions!!
