Midwest Industries AK side scope mount
Ordered one of these today. Plan is to put a RDS on the AK or maybe even a 1-4 or 1-6 type optic. It looks like the rail is centered over the bolt cover and not offset as some of these side mounts are.....requiring an angled rail adaptor. I like that it is centered and that it is quick detach.
Is anyone using one of these and if so are you getting good results from it?

Re: Midwest Industries AK side scope mount
I tried two different ones, not MI though. One was QD and one was fixed with Allen key bolts. Both sat quite low and it was really difficult to get the dust cover off and on with it in place. Both obscured the irons (In Gabe Saurez's AK gunfighting DVD he has a side scope mount that is high enough to see the irons under, no idea of brand) I used a fixed 4 X 32 scope for a bit, worked pretty well.
I currently use an Ultimak railed gastube with red dot

Re: Midwest Industries AK side scope mount
I hear you but advise that you try it before disregarding the option. When I first installed my H1 on a Troy tube, I disliked how it looked immediately. It has since grown on me and I prefer the gas tube setup now - it does work and works very well.
I even tried that Ncstar setup with the micro dot mount at the back of the dustcover. A bit of fiddling got a secure fit for the cover, but the 8-12MOA dot was just too huge and too close to my eye. That lasted about 5 minutes into a range trip.
I'm contemplating going the railed gas tube route on my M92 as well. There are no stupid questions ........ just stupid people

Re: Midwest Industries AK side scope mount
I got it at Brownell's.....$110. The other one I was interested in is the Texas Weapons Dog Leg rail. That one looks really nice. It's $60 more though and requires removal of the rear sight blade.
Yeah, I read about the difficulty of getting the dust cover off. It seems to me to just be a couple of seconds extra to remove the side mount first. No big deal.

Fumbles, TWS do make a rear peep sight for their dogleg scope mount that sits at the back of the rail. $40 IIRC.

Re: Midwest Industries AK side scope mount
Ja, I have seen that Quicksilver_WP. It's pretty cool. After I ordered this I remembered all about the RS Regulate side mount. It's only $20 more, also has a QD but is more forward oriented so you can get the RDS further down the rifle away from the shooter. Oh well. I would have been torn. The MI gets good reviews though.
