of the 2 budget LR scopes I have....I rate the Bushnell ERS 3.5-21x50 > Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50.
I'm a huge Vortex fan.....but the 3.5-21x is just a level above. it keeps up with my S&B PMII/Razor HD2/K624i out to 1000M+.
    having said that, I had a look/play with the new PST 2's (1-6x24 & 3-15x50)
    much better turrets, Razor HD2 (1-6x) and Razor (3-15x & 5-25x)
the eye box seems to be more forgiving.....decent/good enough glass.
over all I think the PST2 range will do very well.

Dont think IOR caters for that price bracket...we have two IOR recons in the arsenal and they are the reason why we have a brand new NF ACTAR and a S&B PMII lying in the safe gathering dust.

Long Range scopes are like horses for courses.

You've not actually said what you want the scope for.

If it's known distance (ie at a square range), then get a cheapass Second Focal Plane scope.
    - you can shoot at max power without transition problems.

If long range to you is under 300m, then get a cheapass Second Focal Plane scope.
    - and adjust your Zero distance to optimise your Point Blank Range.

However, if you want to shoot variable distance targets (multiple gongs) and need to track between targets (more than 1 at different distances) and it's over 300m... then get a First Focal Plane scope.

    So... what is it ?

I just love FFP - hunting or range work, it spoils one. Once accustomed to it 2nd FP just comes well... '2nd' my eyesight? average, very average if there's such at thing.
