Bolt not closing - Savage 11 BTH .243
Hello everyone,
This morning at the range I zeroed my rifle at 100m with 6 shots. I then put the rifle in my bag and moved to 300m to shoot Jackal targets.
When I arrived at 300m and set up, I found that my bolt would only close half way, even without anything in the chamber.
What could be causing this? I've never had an ounce of trouble with this rifle in the past 2 years.

Nigel, it can only be something mechanical that has gone wrong or something has got into the action or is interfering with it. Examine it closely and try to figure it out. It should be reasonably obvious.... One hopes!

Let's hope so... I'll check it out when I get home. I had a quick look at the range but couldn't see anything.

Nigel post some pics.
Was the bolt in the rifle and closed when you moved to the 300m mark?
If your bolt was not in the rifle, check of the bolt did not close (ie. Like a shot was fired). So check if your firing pin is showing or not.

Wild guess: piece of broken spring or other mechanical blockage within the bolt.

Hi Moroelas,
The bolt was open when it was in the bag, I'll take a pic of it shortly and post.

Re: Bolt not closing - Savage 11 BTH .243
Hi Maroelas
Do you think that he may have somehow uncocked the bolt in the action?
A few years ago this happened to my daughter's .22 lr CZ whhen someone else used it on the firing line. To this day I cannot figure out how it happened as you cannot get the bolt in the action if the bolt is uncocked and I am buggered if I know how you could uncock it in the action.
We battled to get the bolt out though and in the process one of the pins that the trigger pivots on was bent and had to be replaced.
