Many calibres have been proven adequate over time, but one should never forget the sentimental/emotional influence in our personal choices: 303, 8x57, 30-06 are war horses followed by 308 and 223. Yet we buy or develop calibres with slight improvements because we want to. Comparing guns for men to jewellery for women is an understandable analogy. We want them and that is reason enough.

I fully support the sentiment of this post. We don't need this many cartridges. I might make one small change.

I've never really dug into the 30-06. So why the 30-06 and not the 308?
308 (from my understanding, which might be wrong) has slightly longer legs, where the 30-06 has a bit more brute force. The 6.5 has very long legs. Nice a and flat but lacks the oomph for larger game at long distance. So a 308 will(might) do a better job of closing the gap between the 6.5 and the 375.
    Opinions?
