    Default Nikko Sterling Panamax 4-12 x 50

    Morning guys.

Ok so, honest opinion. I know the saying is you get what you pay for so...
I bought my 1st hunting rifle from Small Arms Trading in Springs yesterday.
Its that Howa American Sniper Package.
Comes with a Howa 1500 Heavy Barrel, Nikko Sterling Panamax 4-12 x 50 scope, bipod, sling etc.

I want to know ,how many shots am I going to fire with that scope before it starts losing its zero or starts falling apart?

I am starting competency etc this weekend, so still a ways to go before the gun is in my safe.

Would it be ok to start range shooting with it and a few hunts, or should I start saving up now to get something better?

At this stage I will not have a budget of more than R5k, maybe R6k for a scope, so what would be the best alternative in that type of price range, should I get the overwhelming impression "get rid of that scope asap" from you lads?

Obviously I will try out the scope first, but what would be the best bang for buck in that price range? would I be able to use the 2 piece rail and rings on a new scope, of would those be cr@p as well and need to be replaced with something better?

I still need to now buy at least a cleaning kit and make provision for ammunition, and then obviously a better scope?

    Regards
    Gerhard

I have seen no other brand of scope fail more, in the hunting field, than Nikko Sterling.

Just save up for the maybe measure.

The scope might surprise you. I think you will be able to take it back to them and they will send it in to be checked. and will replace it for you. they very nice people at that shop.

Very nice purchase, you will love the rifle.

They will probably replace the scope. They will not pay you for the wounded animal you lost, nor for the cost of a wasted hunting trip, because the scope could not hold its zero out in the bush.

Bought the same package just to get the rifle. The scope will probably work well on a .22 or .223 used as a range rifle where it doesnt get bumped or bashed as when hunting. As TStone said, I wouldnt risk a hunting trip on a Nikko. I have put mine on an air rifle for now, will see how long it lasts!

Got some nice specials via PM from Treeman. Thanks for that dude.

Yeah, I'm going to do the same. Put it on the air rifle?
How are the rings and mounts that come with the scope? Or should I replace that as well?

And if I need to replace them, suggestions.

At this stage looking at either the
    1. Burris Full Field II 4.5-12 x 42mm or the
    2. Vortex Diamondback 3-9x40 Rifle Scope Dead-Hold BDC Reticle

I assume the 2 piece mount will be fine for either scopes rings? I just need to get the proper rings for the scope.
Both the Vortex and Burris have 25mm tubes.
Any suggestions on mounts and rings that are good value for money that wont break the bank and reliable?

Hopefully not on a springer, quick way to kill the scope.
