Default Largest caliber that we can legally own?

I was posed with this question and cannot seem to find it in the FCA, though I may not have looked properly. Can someone please point me to the relevant section or act in which is states the max caliber civies can own in SA? Thanks.

Dont think I have seen a limitation on maximum caliber. Just need a need to properly motivate why you would require that firearm. So unless you are a collector I would imagine it would be fairly difficult to motivate a massive caliber like a 700 NE when a host of other calibers are readily available and would do the same job in a manner of speaking...

I don't believe the FCA mentions anything regarding the maximum caliber we may own.

I am might be wrong, but AFAIK any caliber bigger than a 50cal(12.7mm) is considered to be a destructive device, somehow 12Ga shotguns are not...(+-18mm using a slug)

"Destructive Device" is a term from US legislation, not applicable here.

Then I stand to be corrected. Thank you.

I have nothing whatsoever to base this on, but I'm guessing that your black powder muskets etc may have the biggest legal calibres around.

Wouldn't the minimum caliber for something to be considered a gun/cannon (20mm) be the max caliber permitted under the FCA.
