    Default Kydex magazine holster

    Good day Gunsite,

I'm looking for some advice about making a kydex holster for a magazine, I already have the materials and been successful in making some knife sheaths.

I would like like to know:

    1) is it safe and must you have a round in the magazine when molding the kydex or can you mold the kydex without anything and will the magazine with rounds still fit afterwards ?

    2) if this is unsafe to do so and a round is needed, should I get a snap cap or something like that to mold the kydex?

Appologies if if this is a stupid question but I would rather get some advice from people who know before I do something potentially dangerous or waste materials.

    Thanks for any advice!

Or make a dummy round, no primer or powder.

What FA are you using? I've done a few. With glock mags without a round in is fine. However when making for a p07 I found that you should have a round in. Preferably use a dummy or a snap cap to be on the safe side

This. The few times I have provided actual magazines to local kydex holster manufacturers for molding, I have always included a dummy round. Just the other day I helped someone out with a Shield mag.

The snapcap might work, but that kydex is HOT, but not hot enough to upset live ammo - still better to be safe than sorry.

Who made a mag holder for a shield?

I want to make for a Glock 43, do you think it would work without a round?

Also so would be keen on making for a sig p320, any advice on that?

I would a suggest doing both with a dummy round just to be safe. You wouldn't want do the whole thing and then find that your mag is not fitting with the rounds.
