Norinco have made a Type 84 - which an AKM in look and feel. Fixed stock, wooden furniture.

The Norinco 101 is a copy of the AK 103 (IIRC the model from Kalishnikov) - side folding stock and black plastic furniture.

The issue of mags us exactly why I did buy a type 84 or a 101.

Thanks for the answers so far. It has a fixed wooden stock and grip, no bayonet and a cleaning rod inserted beneath the barrel.

Then it's not the 101. Chat to Spartan before trying to change or cut LM mags. They well priced and work well on the 101.

It sounds like a Type 84, LM mags will not fit and can't be altered, but camdix has mags in stock

Type 84 mags at Camdix are not R350 though. I think it sat at R850 recently.

It's the cost of owning a rifle that uses odd magazines

It can be used. On my Saiga 223 I had the same problem. I have imported a bullet guide from Dinzag to solve the problem. The R4 mags sit too low, so you have to use steel mags and do an adjustment mod on the clip-in points to get them to the same height as the original mag.
