Enfield Factory Sporting Rifle
I'm looking at a .303 Enfield which came from the factory as a sporting rifle. I understand it was fabricated by BSA and has a 5-groove barrel. Does anyone out there have any background information on these rifles?

The same as this? A very typical B.S.A. .303 Lee Enfield sporter.

Re: Enfield Factory Sporting Rifle
I'm open to correction, but so far as I can remember, this pattern of B.S.A. Sporters came in three grades with the rifle in the photo being in the first with a barrel rib, engraving and horn cap. The next down was the same, but with a round barrel while the third also lacked engraving and horn cap.
It would also seem that by paying a bit extra a safety catch on a plate behind the action could be installed. If that was the case, whoever bought mine must have had a need to economise!

Thank you very much. That pretty much answers my questions.
