AK Recoil buffer
Does anyone have an idea who in SA sell Recoil Buffers for the AK? Plenty available from USA but importing is a huge issue. Also need to know if there are any gun shops who carries a good variety of parts and accessories for AK in SA.

Re: AK Recoil buffer
My research suggested these are an unnecessary gimmick and can cause problems, like bits of rubber breaking off and jamming things up

Re: AK Recoil buffer
If you need better recoil absorbtion buy an ALG recoil spring.
I believe you can also get Wolff extra power springs.

Re: AK Recoil buffer
It can cause more issues than what it's worth!
Parts is a problem, I'm struggling myself.
Any idea who sells those recoil Springs? I would like to change the entire recoil assembly on my SAIGA and maybe they can help.

Re: AK Recoil buffer
What's wrong with your Saiga?
I bought my ALG from Tac Shac in Joburg, who got it from Bernhard Agencies. I don't know who currently has stock.
Maybe Quicksilver-WP will advise where he got his Wolff's from.

Re: AK Recoil buffer
I got my Wolff springs from Wolff
As for recoil buffers, there have been some cases where the buffers actually led to cracked receivers.
When BigT enquired from ALG they indicated that while their spring wasn't inherently designed to be stiffer (Wolff is +15%), it would serve to provide more resistance than a factory spring. I'm currently running my ALG in my 56.There are no stupid questions ........ just stupid people

Re: AK Recoil buffer
My SAIGA's recoil assembly rusted while in the police safe for 2 years... It was rusted completely shut and I couldn't get my bolt open or load any magazines.
Now I am struggling to clean the inside op the pipe where the one guide rod goes into, I Q20'd it to hell and back... but there is always black and brown stuff coming out with the oil, so it was damaged by the rust (in my opinion)
It is shooting again after a visit to the gunsmith, but I don't trust it.
Springs are also clearly rusted and I have my doubts about the reliability.
I saw some of the performance parts are less steel, but cant get a place willing to export it to SA.
(seems like the steel "pipe" in the original is now nylon pipe in the performance part "upgrade", so it wont rust - Guide rods are still steel)
I will check with Hailstorm on the Springs!
Maybe they can get the entire recoil assembly as well!

Re: AK Recoil buffer
It's unlikely that you'll find a complete recoil assembly locally. You'd probably have to try import it from RTG or K-VAR.
From your description, it sounds like you're talking about the bolt carrier too though? Where the guide rod slots in? If thats the case, you'd be better off asking the Saiga agents to handle sourcing a new bolt carrier etc. for you, given its a serialized action part. There are no stupid questions ........ just stupid people
