Default Information regarding my 1901 LE Mk1

Can anyone tell me some more about my LE 303 Mk1
It was my grandfathers rifle. As far as I could determine he "sported" it
It has the 770mm long barrel

Is is sadly ruined by the sporting in terms of collectors value. Please don't change it further.

Can anyone tell me what the significance of the markings on my rifle are and possibly the origin and history?
It is a 1901 model. Does this mean that it served in the 2nd Boer war?

Does it still have the brass disk on the butt?

Your rifle was made by Birmingham Small Arms (BSA), as marked on barrel (3 rifles emblem) and below bolt handle on trap.
Crown VR = Victoria Regina (made during the reign of Queen Victoria - she passed January 1901, rifles made thereafter are marked ER for Edward Rex)
    >< = sold out of service

Cant see any other significant markings.
Crossed out/deleted markings I cannot make out.

You can check the top of the brass butt plate for possible unit designation.

Gerrit, This is what your rifle would have looked like before being sporterised. Magazine Lee Enfield Mk.I*. I suspect part of your rifle's issue history could be determined if we can make out what has been cancelled on the receiver's top front. You can probably examine it better than I. It would seem to consist of three letters above a number. Could the letters be CAM ?
