Help needed identifying markings
Does anyone know what the two markings are on the sideplate of the revolver in the picture might be?
The gun is a Colt New Service revolver here in SA. Manufactured in 1898 so may have seen service in the Boer War. The cross hatching looks like it was done to remove another number but can't see what it might have been.
There are no other military acceptance / disposal stamps on the gun.

Re: Help needed identifying markings
The bottom mark seems like a canceled out number.

PM Browning HiPower. If he doesn't know, nobody here will in all probability.
