Thread: 9mm ARs?

Don't understand it. Why an AR in 9mmP when an SMG is probably smaller, lighter, more maneuverable and throws the same bullet with adequate accuracy?

    Or even just a Roni...

Same platform as the full scale ARs in 556, 300BLK, 6.5 CM, 308, therefore same controls at same position such as safety lever, ping pong paddle, charging system, mag release, what else. Same cleaning / stripping drill.

Where would 9mmP have an advantage over 223 or 300BLK?

Sometimes 9mmP may be cheaper and more available, for instance.

For the tactical operator who only operates at room distances, he can carry two 9mmP mags in the space of one 223 mag.

Wilson Combat makes a 9mmP AR that uses Glock mags. Hailstorm can order.

Personally I think MP5 mags are better for that purpose. If you go past 25 rounds a curve in the mag is better in my view. Therefore the MP5 mags feed better than the Glock happy sticks in my experience and they have stronger spring pressure.

The Sig MPX seems really good. Has AR15 controls also. There were some around a year or so ago.

Therefore the choise may be between sticking with an MP5 or going to the MPX. Their mags are curved.

    Roni also has its place.

But I think professionals will still take a proper smg or 9mmP AR if they have a choice. Higher weight may also play a role in reduced recoil where headshots are called for, in hostage situations or where body armour or suicide vests is expected, I guess.

To each their own. I like the look of the AR-15 9mm.

Sure there are other designs and I like the MPX, and the Skorpion Evo. A Roni? Meh. Used one and it was ok.

I just think a dedicated 9mm lower with a correctly sized mag well looks better than the standard lowers with a block.

    Or how about beltfed 9mm?

Limited availability of quality closed bolt sub gun sized 9mm.The Colt at least is semi available at times and has an established reputation with some of the kinks ironed out.THe mag may be straight but the uzi mag has never been accused of being unreliable. We cannot get the hk mp5 and even if we could parts are unavailable. There is the POF but there is still the parts issue. The CZ is still relatively untested. It is also very blocky and bulky for what it is.THe Ishmash 9mm should be good but getting mags could be fun.As for the Roni the few that I saw connected to Glocks impeded reliability in a big way.

Is it a DI system with rotating bolt or something else?
