Because you're assuming that if shop X doesn't advertise their price online then people like me will get in their car and drive all the way there in the hope that the price is a reasonable one, rather than in this day and age, click on shop Y's website, see the price, determine if it's reasonable or not, and only then take the time to drive down to the shop and buy the product along with anything I might see.

I'll say it again, this secret agent crap wrt online pricing has to stop, it does a business more harm than good. If you're going to be online, then be online properly or not at all.

I get that foot traffic works. See something you weren't planning on buying and you end up buying it. However as a retail store, if you are not considering opening an online store, you are living in the dark ages. Whilst firearm and ammunition sales are more tricky because of legislation, IMHO that is not too big a barrier to an entrepreneur.

I've bought bullets from S&O that turned out to be considerably more expensive than other stores. I did that because I saw a price I could live with and went and got it from them. Other online stores had the same product, but no prices, or worse had the stock but didn't display it.

Thinking competitors won't find out your prices because it's not on the internet is shortsighted.

So a big plus to those stores (like S&O, especially since this is their thread) for embracing online shopping.

The internet has been changing how we shop for twenty plus years, stop acting like it's 1985.....

    On a funnier note.

Jeremy Clarkson once said during a Top Gear episode. If you have to ask the price. You cant afford it.

But you see Graham, people are knocking the very store you are praising. Guess you can't please them all right!

IMO, in a world of instant gratification, he/she who can provide what the customer wants, at that moment, will generally trump he/she who must first be contacted for pricing and availability, even if the latter can provide the merx at a lower price.

If I take myself as an example, I work 10 to 12 hours a day then study two to four hours at night. I simply don't have the time to be phoning around for prices and availability and most of my shopping is done online outside of traditional brick and mortar store hours. This means that unless I have been referred to a specific store for an item I am looking for, a store that does not note pricing and availability online will probably never see my custom, unless it is a specialist item that is not available elsewhere.

At the end of the day the store is free to choose how it wants to advertise, and customers are free to choose how and from whom they want to shop. I imagine if "keep the price secret" stores were to do their market research they would quickly change their marketing strategies. Not having a robust online presence in the 21st century is tantamount to commercial suicide...

But you're assumptions are made on a generic buyer. And the world is now made up of many different types. For me, you don't post the price I'm assuming you're expensive and don't bother.

And now they are getting very good customer feedback for their money I am the same. No price I'm just not interested even in a store if items are not priced I will simply walk out. I hate trying to get some sales assistant to try and get me a price.

I'm would also like to add that I have already decided I want this gun and just waiting for the prices to come down a bit to buy one. So you never know if your price was reasonable I would have been a potential buyer.
