Re: Chrony for hire?
Someone at the range gave me this advice once. Works very well.

Re: Chrony for hire?
When I bought my chrony it was only for 2 calibres. Now That I'm up to 5 and potentially a 6th, I'm pretty grateful I got it back then. Especially given how the price has climbed since.
As several here can attest, I'm more than happy to let others use my chrony. With one obvious condition.... you shoot it, you replace it. If that's too stressful for you, I'll happily chrony your loads for you. Since if I shoot it .... yeah.
Just one more note (for luckoftheirishza) it works better if you remember to pack the test rounds inThere are no stupid questions ........ just stupid people

Re: Chrony for hire?
You can rent mine for R7500/day or part thereof, I assume the risk of it wing shot.

Re: Chrony for hire?
I don't recall exactly what I paid for using skietbaan's one before but it wasn't an exorbitant amount, the last time I was there I also purchased 9mm bullets (punte) for reloading; paid the range fee had some coffee and used the chrony. It couldn't have been more than R250, but I honestly don't remember.
PS (never answer that question my wife could be reading this!!!!)

Re: Chrony for hire?
I have been to the range (without a Chrony) to try out my reloads (I am devastated by the results.... thank for asking) - pin hole accuracy on sighting in with the new scope @ 25 meters; - couldn't hit the broad side of a barn @ 100m (groups of ± 3" on 150gr and 5" on 180gr Sierra pro hunters).
I guess I will have to spend the money and get it over with. What are your thoughts on the CALDWELL BALLISTICS PRECISION unit?

Re: Chrony for hire?
A chrony is a good investment (provided you don't shoot it)

Re: Chrony for hire?
Thread revival...
Traditional chronographs are prone to damage and I can see why renting them is seen as a liability. But with new chronos like Magnetospeed or better yet Labradar, where there's a much lower risk of shooting the said instrument - are there any ranges or gun shops or even gun clubs that would look at getting one and renting it out?
Currently using the old drop technique to guesstimate a new hunting load recipe and while I'm sure I'm in the right ballpark, I'm keen to know my actual speed.

Re: Chrony for hire?
IIRC Hailstorm rents out a chrony.
