    Default Ruger Gunsite scout feedback

    Good afternoon

I am looking for user feedback regarding the Ruger Gunsite scout in .308. I have a LM5 which I am considering selling and changing across to the ruger.

I am a farmer and the scout will do what I want from this rifle without having to licence it every 21 months which is something I am tired of.

    Any feedback would be welcome.

    Thank you
    Ryan

Possibly look at something like the Troy PAR. Pump action AR10 style rifle

Gives you a better defensive gun if that what the LM5 was intended for

There is also the Vektor H5 slide action version of the LM5 that you can sometimes get used. There was one on Guntree in February for R9 500,00. I don't know the position with spare parts.

I dont have a ruger but customized a howa to same specs. It really is a nice rifle and has been used very effectively for hunting and sport shooting. Dont know that i would want it as a defensive weapon though.

If that PAR gets different less hassle licensing, that may be the way to go. Much faster follow up shots than a bolt action.

There is a chap working at Kings Guns in Durban who has the Ruger Scout in .308 and he says its his favorite rifle! He is always on about it, how accurate it is, how light it is and how he can still shoot 180gr bullets at great speeds. Other chaps tested his rifle out on the range the other day and they were suitably impressed.

All depends what the purpose of the rifle is. If it's for S/D as the OP is looking to replace his obviously S14 licensed LM, then a bolt action won't be recommended.

The history behind the Scout rifle is very interesting, a lot of thought went it to it. If you want to go bolt gun for SD you wont beat it.

The forward mounted scope makes it very quick for short range targets.

James Yeager and Clint Smith(Thunder Ranch) have some very good youtube clips on it.
