the young man has just graduated as a field ranger and is perusing a PH career.
he also weighs over 90kg and his small rifle is a 375 H&H
tested loads today and got 2070 fps with 600 grains, that is 5710fpe
He is using 365 at the moment.
i will pass on your info to him.
    thanks again for the help
    best regards

Was the 460 designed for 600gr monolithics?

    Why don't I think so.

Will you not suffer poor stability and/or seating depth issues?

Gary...sorry bud,i have been holding back and keeping my mouth shut on this thread, but i cannot anymore.

The best advice you can give that young man who is starting out on a career as field guide/PH is to get rid of that weatherby as fast as possible.

I really do not want to get into the pro"s and cons of DG rifles/calibers but i would be hard pressed to name one of the medium or large bores that are worse than the weatherby for a variety of reasons.

Haul that thing out at a gathering around a fire and notice the reactions....the newby"s will ooh and aah and want to fondle and stroke [still talking about the rifle].
The old hands will glance at each other, raise their eyes to the heavens and suddenly remember that they need to be elsewhere.

I also wouldn't go that route. IIRC, my shooting buddy pushes 500gr Swift A-Frame's at a downloaded 2400ft/s. There isn't a problem bigger than that.

    Get a muzzle break.

Garry, it is a pleasure ,,...Garry , I am sharing Dr. Kevin Robinson`s point of view on heavy bullet for caliber. I am currently ordering 450 gn bullets for my 404 Jeffery...the bore being .419 instead of .423 as a standard 404 Jeffery should have..it seems Walter barrels have a .418 bore as well , we slug some Walter barrels in the 404 Jeffery rifles...to give you an idea...when using a 450gn bullet in a .419 bore 404 Jeffey barrel, the sectional density of the bullet is increase to a better level than the 500gn bullet of a .458 Win Mag when shooting the bullet at 2150 f/s in the 404 Jeffery....
Advise the young man to keep on using the 600 gn bullet...if he can get Norfolk and Dzombozo solid and use Norfolk/Rhino solids at 2400 f/s he will have incredible penetration in this scenario...instead of using the 460 Weatherby as a speed rifle let him use it as a momentum /penetration rifle.....it will be a great penetration rifle on any dangerous game animal.... He can even go as low as 2100 f/s with a 600gn bullet..it will be a breeze to handle when shooting it..one extremely important point he needs to get right..he needs to get the stock to fit him like a glove or a Shotgun stock....it will make this rifle handle beautifully....

Gert, do you have any idea what the chamber pressure is when you try and launch a 600 grain bullet at 2400 fps from a 24 inch barrel ?

Dale, yes, that is why I suggest 600gn bullet at 2100 f/s , it will be a load he can handle..only he will know if he will be comfortable with such a load..you are quite correct,....the 600 gn at 2400 will be too much and not a safe load..thank you for pointing it out..I should have mentioned only the 600 gn at 2100 f/s..thank you Dale.. I really would like to see the penetration of this load....

Dale, for interest sake..will you give us detail of this load in the Quick load program???? 600 gn bullet at 2400 f/s for the .460 Weatherby??????

    With S385 and 24 inch barrel using .458 , 600 , TMR LIONBd DG45828 bullet and COL of 95.25mm

    MV=2400fps
    Chamber pressure = 79736 psi
    Case fill = 113%
    powder burn = 100%

Dale , yes, not safe and real unpleasant..both will get punished, the person shooting the rifle and the elephant that is being shot...

Please provide a load for the following:
    600 gn at 2100 f/s????
