Default Latest on barrel replacement and caliber change?

How smoothly is the process currently working if you want to replace a worn barrel, or even rebarrel a hunting rifle to a different caliber? I spoke with a well known custom rifle builder, he claims the process is currently dysfunctional...

Friend of mine is waiting mire that 8 months for his replacement barrel license to be approved. His gun is currently an expensive paper weight.

Guys I stand corrected but I heard that SABS don't do proofing anymore for new barrels and as a result a Gunsmith must hand in a report now with the SABS certificate which has become non existent and I gather that the problem originated from this?

Maybe Gert can elaborate on this as he works closely with Johan Geyling.

Do you buy the barrel and take it to a gunsmith or does the barrel need to be transferred to a gunsmith direct from the gunshop?

Barrel needs to be couriered to the gunsmith, you can't take it yourself but gunsmith's can source you a barrel of your choice so no need to worry about that!
