Moving from 5 Licenses to 6 Licenses - Bit of an Issue
Hi. Advice needed please chaps.
At the moment I have:
1 x Glock - section 13
1 x Glock - section 15
1 x .260 Rifle - section 15
1 x .375 Rifle - section 15
1 x stolen revolver still on my name after 30 years
Total of 4 weapons but 5 against my name.
Now I want to purchase a shotgun for bird and game hunting.
I am looking at a semi auto shotgun.
How do I go about applying for now my 6th license? even though I really only have 4 weapons.
What section will I apply under?
Is it easier to apply for a pump action license as opposed to a semi auto shotgun or is it the same?
I do belong to SA Hunters and to a local gun club. I hunt regularly and shoot on lisenced ranges regularly and can get letters from farmers inviting me to hunt.
Cheers.

Semi auto requires dedicated status so you'd need to apply as a S16. With your 4 "new" licenses, anything you want to license next would have to be under S16 (or S14- restricted SD or S17 collectors).

I'm not entirely sure, but I think you can only licence semi auto with S16.
Why don't you just go that route?

If you are shooting regularly or even semi regularly at a club, dedicated status is far from onerous to achieve and maintain. This would be your best route.

Re: Moving from 5 Licenses to 6 Licenses - Bit of an Issue
I'm not sure what the ordinances say. Maybe someone with more knowledge can post.
Dedicated sports shooter allows for a 7 round semi-auto shotgun
Dedicated hunter allows for a 5 round semi-auto shotgun.
The 5th license of your stolen firearm should be cancelled / taken off your name. If it has not been
done already. It will always have to be mentioned when applying for new licenses but will not
affect your current quota (Hence 4 firearms as a non dedicated shooter)

To license more than 4 FA's, you need dedicated status.
To license a semi-outo shottie, you need dedicated status.
That is the easy part.
Limpopo allows the hunting of game birds with a semi-auto shottie, if it is only loaded with 2 rounds, AFAIK. (Practically, this is the same a double.)
Some clay's clubs will frown at you if you pitch up with a pump or semi. They might cite safety reasons etc, but I have a sneaking suspicion that they are just being snobs.
