200m egg challenge
Been snooping around on internet see 200 yard rim fire egg challenge with .22 LR. Looks like fun. for a group of .22 addicts.Last edited by Skaaphaas; 25-07-2017 at 17:15.

Re: 200 m eg challenge
My daughter (16y/o) and I were at Rooikraal on thursday. Had the gongs on 200m to play with the 6.5x55, and some paper targets on 50m and 100m for the .22...
we tried various .22 ammo to see what we can use in future for accuracy in the old remy M514. We tried some Lapua (R7.95 for 50 in 1987!!!), S&B (R74.95 for 50), GEco (made by RWS) (R75.95 for 50) and CCI (R200 for 100), all standard velocity hollow points. Speed were all in the 1000 - 1100 fps range.
at 50m Kaitlyn could consistently place 3 bullets in the bull (about the size of a 20c coin), with 11 round in or touching the bull, using the Lapua. At the same distance, the GEco groups spread to about 65mm for a 10 round group.
The S&B and CCI were about the same, at 29mm and 26mm 10 shot groups at 50m
once the 6.5x55mm ammo ran out, Kaitlyn decided that the 20cm gong @ 200m is a fair challenge for the little 22... after a few shots to understand the trajectory, she could hit the 20cm gong about 4 times out of 5. then she attempted the little 10cm gong at 200m.... that went less well for her, but she still managed 1 in 5 hits at 200m. We used the GEco ammo, since we now need to shoot that out and get new ammo better compatible with the rifle.
Conditions were NOT ideal for the .22 we had a wind blowing in from about the 2o'clock direction, at speeds varying from about 5-9km/h. At 50m the effect was not that bad, but at 200m we had to aim off into the wind about 25cm. and aim high about 35cm
It was still a lot of fun, and the egg will definitely make an appearance in our next range day! we normally use the small water ballons as a random moving target to shoot at. This is the sort of thing the kids enjoy tremendously.

Re: 200 m eg challenge
We should outdo them. Shoot at an ostrich egg at 1000m.

Re: 200 m eg challenge
Of course with a slug Gazza. Because the hael spreads and that would make it too easy.
