Pointers in the Eastern Cape
Does anyone know of any future German Shorthair Pointer litters in the Eastern Cape? Working lines, not show dogs.
Any leads would be appreciated.

Re: Pointers in the Eastern Cape
Contact Arnold Slabbert in PE on 082 3323 660. I have no idea if he has a littler planned but he does breed from time to time. Be prepared to wait, his litters are often sold well in advance.
Where are you based? Why only from the EC?

Re: Pointers in the Eastern Cape
I would suggest you contact Slang Viljoen, he is the chairman of the HPR Field Trial Club, and all the best litters get put on their waiting list

Before you buy a pointer make sure in your mind that you really really really love dogs!

Hi Wet. Slang is up north, not in the E.Cape. Arnold has some nice dogs. If you want a dog for the Eastern Cape, you want something that will run a bit. I suggest do some research and talk to a few people. Contact the Border Field Trial Club as well, they will point you in the right direction. What exactly are you wanting the dog for?

Re: Pointers in the Eastern Cape
Thanks Chaps.
@bowhunter: I now live in the EC, and since I only buy dogs from people I've met, it would be most convenient if they were local.
@RyanD: I've had pointers all my life, man. All the things that make them challenging are why I love them :D
@Springer: I want the dog as a pet. I'm out and about all day and my dogs (with their big box of toys) are ALWAYS with me. We practice HPR for fun and exercise.

Ok cool. Then I might suggest something a little less wired than a mad hunter, they require a fair bit of input. Good luck.

Re: Pointers in the Eastern Cape
Sadly I don't think a dog from a field trial specialist will be the best choice as a pet, as these dogs require regular and sustained working, but good luck.
@Springer, you'll be surprised at how many litters from the best breeders from the whole of SA are put on the club's list of available dogs.

Re: Pointers in the Eastern Cape
Hi Johann. Yes, I'm aware that many people give up extra pups to pet homes. To be fair it can work, but it isn't advisable. You tend to see these dogs available before they reach two again "free to good home - needs space" :) Most of the guys I know though, have working homes for their litters planned in advance.
