IDPA in New Zealand
Hey Kiwi's
My son will be spending a few months with his grandparents in NZ. (Nov - March probably)
He has expressed an interest in doing a few club shoots in NZ.
Are there any Kiwi's on GS that shoot IDPA in NZ, that we can have a chat to?Israeli Carry is for dead people

Unfortunately no, no IDPA in NZ
See this link for our pistol shooting categories

Where about is he staying? Despite popular belief NZ is a fairly large place!
@Tango Sierra might be able to help Auckland area?

Re: IDPA in New Zealand
IPSC is a big thing there, he will be able to find IPSC clubs.

Re: IDPA in New Zealand
Thanks guys.
Yeah, looks like we may have to do a crash course in IPSC if he wants to shoot in NZ.
He will be staying in Miarangi Bay / Murray's Bays area for most of the time.Israeli Carry is for dead people

Re: IDPA in New Zealand
Ermagerd, don't mention "defence" in the same breath as "firearms". Auckland Shooting Club will be the closest (relatively) to his LOC of Mairangi / Murrays Bay.
The club is a new addition to the Auckland shooting scene but is under continued legal strife due to... well, hippies and council red tape - let's put it that way. The hippies were overcome but council's red tape means another court appearance.
Anyway I digress.
The alternative is the OMNI pistol club at Riverhead (no website?) or if he's willing to do a 120km round trip there is Waiuku pistol club (WPC). Run by a complete bellend who seems to have an irrational distaste for South African and Bulgarian (?) military personnel. Has questionable training methodologies which are contrary to commonly accepted and practiced techniques.
Avoid if possible.
There is Howick pistol club but haven't been there in years, last I heard there was also some political shit going on
Just bear in mind that if he's wanting to shoot pistols casually he needs to be be supervised by a B category endorsement (pistol) holder at a police approved range. Can't just go blazing away on a farm or any of that bizzo (although I'm sure it happens).

Re: IDPA in New Zealand
Thank you Tango Sierra.
So the thinking was thusly.
Get him into IPSC with a dash of speed locally. This should enable him to shoot IPSC in NZ for experience and pleasure.
However, seeing as he will require constant 'supervision' probably means him not being able to take is own FA with him.
I'm assuming that pistols are a red-tape nightmare, just reading the home page of ASC.
Probably not worth the hassle.Israeli Carry is for dead people
