Still hoping to find one one day. Why do you ask?

Re: Movie: DUNKIRK
I watched it last week, it felt like a b-rate movie to me. Acting wasnt that great. In one fighting scene it looked like they reused some of the shooting material. The fake explosions, fake smoke and fake muzzle flares was off putting to me.

Re: Movie: DUNKIRK
I just loved seeing the Spitfires in action, and whilst there was a LOT of 'aviation B.S.' (rumour has it that Tom Hardy's Spitfire is still gliding!), there was definitely some real Spit Mk1 action there, and they got the rattles and clinks in the cockpit shots a bit more authentic than normal, despite the relative motion of the dogfights being a bit slower than reality. The one ditching scene was rubbish (it looked like the Spit was made of balsa wood or something), but I respect that they tried to avoid the typical trap of using CGI for everything. I'm VERY sorry that they couldn't locate at least one proper DB-engined Messerschmitt, those Merlin-engined (the irony!) Buchon's just don't cut it for authenticity. And the view from the sides of the nose which they used quite a bit weren't from an actual Spitfire.
I'm nitpicking a bit, being an aviation nut some of the errors did stand out a bit more than it might to most people, but it did cause me to rush out and buy a 1/24th Spitfire Mk1a kit at least......now to build it.

Re: Movie: DUNKIRK
The early Spitfires had excellent glide ratios. Only a little less than an actual Glider. Close to 20:1 IIRC. Can't find source will look for it when home.
The Spit in the movie ran out of go-juice at low level and did dogfighting though?

Re: Movie: DUNKIRK
Are there any DB-engined -109s still flying? Memory is hazy but IIRC (one of) the last one(s) crashed at an airshow some years ago??
For something like this I almost wonder whether it wouldn't have been better CGI'ng the correct nose profile onto the Buchon's flying scenes...

Apparently they were bitches to start when cold. Inverted V12. Oil would seep down into the cylinder heads.
