Question Ruger Six Series Cylinder latch problem?

    Hi everyone

Experiencing a small issue. The cylinder latch on my Ruger Speed Six is stuck in the down position, so now the cylinder is spinning freely in either direction (ie. not locking up)

Has anyone else experienced this with a Ruger Six series revolver?

From what I've managed to read online, it looks like it's most likely just gunk in the cavity, or perhaps (but a lot less likely) the latch spring.

Does anyone have any experience opening up one of these to take a look? any advance or pointers?

I'd take it through to a gunsmith but one small issue. I sold the revolver to a gentleman, and so booked it into a dealer and off my name, and so I can't transport it anymore.

The buyer has since pulled out and requested a refund. I'd just like to get the issue sorted so that I can move on with the sale again.

    Thanks all

    marshy

I'll gladly take the piece of junk off your hands!

Ruger have detailed instruction manuals, including stripping instructions and an exploded diagram. These might help?

    Follow these stripping instructions:
    Make sure gun is unloaded.
    Remove grips.
Remove mainspring. You compress it and insert a pin to keep it compressed, then drop hammer and remove.
There is a plunjer to the rear of the trigger housing. Push in the plunjer and pull trigger housing down.
Be very carefull, there are small parts, pins and springs in the assembly. Do not lose them.
You can now pull out the hammer pivot, hammer and cylider/crane assembly.
The cylinder latch should now be exposed. The small spring and plunjer pushing it up sit in the crane pivot. I suspect it is just dirty.
Clean out, oil lightly and reassemble.
This is somewhat trickey, so get some help if you are not very sure you can do it.

Golden trick I learnt on the forum is to disassemble within a heavy duty, see-through plastic bag. That way the springs and small bits can only jump around within the bag.

Why did I not know that 15 years ago. At my previous town house there is a little pin and spring from my Speed Six lost in a very small lawn. At least it was not in my eye. Why did I take it apart, on my porch, I still do not know. And so we learn sort of.

If you haven't managed to sort it by September I can bring mine around and we can trouble shoot the differences.
