Default Transport of firearm to Cape Town for work

    Hi all,
    Can someone please advise?
I am traveling via air to Cape Town often for work. Mango and Kulula doesn't carry firearms. Is there any way to get my pistol to and from Cape Town?
I remember years ago SAA did this. I like to fly via Lanseria and SAA is not there. So apart from flying SAA via OR Thambo, is there a courier or some way to get a firearm to and from? For me to travel via vehicle is not an option.
I do work in Kayelitsha and working not only there, but going anywhere without my edc, just don't feel safe.

I suppose that you could use RAM couriers to deliver to a gunshop in CT for you.

    Fly SAA
Yes I read all the I like etc.
Giving your edc to RAM for a few days to get to CPT and a few days to get back to JHB at R1200 round trip seems nuts
Fly SAA pay the 200 to put it in the box and only be without it in the air

Thanks guys. Damn! You pay extra nowadays to carry a gun?
That was part of the service years ago, - things have changed hey?
And still SAA is in financial difficulties

    It's R250

It is a painless process I go through alot. Although sometimes you get check in staff that dont know what they are doing.

I usually put all my blades and things that cant go carry on in my glock box so I can just take a small bag on board. With this method you can actually just go straight to the payment desk, pay your R250 and then go to RAPS who will do a manual check in for your gun. This skips the check in desk altogether.

I have only had good service from RAPS at OR Tambo

I read that your ammo and gun needs to be separated. Do you put the mags in your carry on luggage?

I put it in a small pistol bag and zip tie

If I'm lazy I just put loaded mags in with my pistol with no loose ammo

OP - If this is going to be a long term issue you could just buy another gun (sporting lic.) and book it in and out of a CT dealer. We have an Aussie student who does just that when he comes to SA to guide.
