If it were a right, the same way in which owning other property without restriction (ie. motorcars, televisions etc.) then the cost of ownership will certainly markedly decline. In essence, the fact that ownership of firearms is a heavily-regulated privilege serves to artificially inflate costs far above what the market equilibrium would be.

If that is the case the barrier to ownership in my opinion is purely public and goverment perception. And making gun ownership a right will go far in changing it.

Ok, I hear you. However, everyone has a right to own a vehicle or a house. Whether they can afford one is another issue entirely. I believe anyone should be able to apply for a licence to own a gun. I do not believe they should be made available to everyone, as I believe not everyone is cut out to own guns.

There are certainly more effective ways of weeding out the undesirable, criminal, and irresponsible elements than the horribly ineffective system we currently have. Even the blooming FCA can actually work if the authorities bothered to keep their end of the deal. It should be taken away from them and given to the private sector to administrate.

Then walk to the police station and convince the DFO that you need the gun but you unfortunately don't have a water and electricity bill to prove you have a fixed address. You also do not have pictures of your safe because you have never owned a digital camera, a computer or a printer and if you did...you don't have electricity. And for those who still support legislation keeping guns out of the hands of poor people (Because that is what we currently have), please get out of the closet and be honest with yourself. You only support any form of firearms legislation because it keeps guns out of the hands of black people. And that is after all the only reason any white person in this country supported firearms legislation during the apartheid years, it allowed the white people who could afford it guns, but it kept black people disarmed.
My sympathy for political correctness has long since evaporated unfortunately. Yes, life is tough.

    Dis die reine waarheid.

The bottom line is this, and exactly the very reason many actually do support the fca/any gun legislation and why we are screwed. Some are still closet socialist due to our programming, but dont like the fact that we are no longer the favoured demographic but the thinking pattern remains ingrained all the same.

I don't speak for everyone. I'm pointing fingers at the closet racists that proclaim licencing is somehow a good thing because some people are not "cut out to have guns" as long as they can have them, but the rest cannot. There is a huge difference.
