Default Re-loading,- is it really worth it?

    Hi Guys,
For those who are doing reloading.
Are you really saving money and is it worth the effort ?
    I am specifically talking 9mm.
Is buying range ammo at the gun-shop for practice not better?
    Thanks in advance.

I'm loading for about R1,20 a round excluding the cost of the press etc. Brass also excluded from that cost. How much do you pay for range ammo?

    Its alot cheaper to reload.
Last time I bought primers there was specials on S&B. At R40 per 100. Lets take even at R60.

124gn Frontier CMJ were around 900 per thousand.

Im using 147gn Josyd and Frontier.
    Josyd is cat slightly cheaper.

    Powder s121. Lets say R300 a tin of 500gram. Roughly is 8000grains. I use 3.5grn. That is 2280 9mmP. 13c

    So comes to 60 + 90 + 13. About R1-53.
Thats less then R100 per 50.

Considering there's a good R4-5+ difference per round between decent factory ammo and reloads, yes, it's absolutely worth the effort

The very basics would be the following:
    Press
    Dies
    Powder dispenser
    Scale (beam or electronic)
Priming tool (press mounted or hand operated)

There are other tools that you may want but with the above list you're on a good start.

You will never save money by reloading.

    You will, however, shoot more.

Reloading is also more of an art if you can say that.

I am no pro but I do enjoy it, the effort is not that bad as you think. After range day you spend a hour and half to prep the cases you shot out. That is de priming and cleaning. I do not have a tumbler or any fancy cleaning tool. Take around 200 cases and de prime them. Leave in a salt, vinegar, soap and warm water solution no longer than 10min. Wash off and place in the sun to dry. Inspect and place in a coffee jar. Priming you can do while watching tv. 2 buckets hand primer and there you go.

Powder and bullet takes the most time. But even with a electric scale and single press you can still do around 150 rounds in 2hours.

Based on how much I shoot, about 1.5 per reload about 4.5 per bought
I paid off my press, tumbler etc within 6 months

It also seriously helps with impulse buying when you walk in by a dealer.
