    Default Scope advise

I have a friend that wants to buy his first hunting rifle. He will use it once or maybe twice a year.

He settled on a Howa .308 but now he would like advise on a scope that is not too expensive.

He got a suggestion from a local GS to buy a Nikko Stirling panamax. But I don't know them at all and think he should rather settle for something better.

How are the following that I've seen to be at the lower price range:
    Nikon Prostaff
    Burris Fullfield ii
    Leupold VX-1
    Redfield Revolution
    Nikko Stirling panamax
    Vortex Crossfire

    Any advise would be appreciated.

Hi bronxlive, I think we have the same friends with the same problems.

I have two burris scopes and they serve me well. The fullfield II is a nice scope with decent glass.

Look at Lynx as well. They are local and if they have to do repairs or a service its very quick.

Ive got the new LX3. And its incredibly good optics.

Please stay away from Nikko Stirling.
My uncles Nikko packed up last year.
Only 2 years old on his 308. He took it in as it has lifetime guarantee/warranty. That was April 2016. He went to dealer at least 4 times this year. Last time in July 17. They are still waiting for answer from importers. Ridiculous.

No need to dispute it's reputation, no nonsense warranty.

    Or Redfield Revolution

Comes out of the same factory, same warranty.

    Both tough as nails.

This. I've had an older VX-I, since 2004, it has seen hard use and is still going strong.

Agree with the above. Been running one on a 338 wm for 7 years , which gets used and bumped weekly. Very good value for money imo.

Redfield BDC. I just bought another one for a spare. 3-9, I found I was playing "where's the buck" with the 4-12. That's on my 300 WinMag Howa.

I have replaced all my scopes with Burris.
They are affordable, and they work for me.
