Interesting. That is a 'TAG' ... no idea what that means though, besides that they are using it to classify the guys somehow. Tags are very open-ended, and can be set up in a million different ways.

I would request info from your province for that.

Is IPSC and SAPSA part of the same thing?

    How are the matches shot?

Someone has told me that each stage is shot 2x. Which score is used?

how does the shoot off in Appendix 3 work? what is the reason

I have briefly read the rules, I did not note a limit on the number of the mags, have I missed it?

Stages are only shot once. Most JHB and PTA clubs run their shoots on a Sat and Sun, so you can shoot twice on a weekend if you want

    No limit on mags

    Equipment:

Yes. The IPSC guys like loud colorful shirts (It is just a thing in IPSC). Many wear Salomons (or other flash and expensive trail running shoes). Many of the top guys are slick and athletic looking (If you have watched any YouTube video's of the oversea's guys), with running tights under their shorts etc. There is no loose clothing (which adds to the slick appearance) And yes, they use 'speed holsters'.

Some of this stuff can be expensive. And as flashy as it might appear, all of these things serve a purpose.

IPSC is about speed. It is a very large part of the score. All of these things are included to provide as much of a advantage as physically possible in order to squeeze a few tenths of a second off their total stage times.

On a 4 second stage, that 2 tenths of a second that you gain by using that speed holster (or not getting your gun hung up on a loose piece of your shirt) can make a huge difference.

Do you HAVE TO have all of this stuff to enjoy the sport. No. Not at all. Many guys run normal every-day carry gear.

Unless you want it to be, IPSC is no more expensive than many of the other shooting disciplines. The guys who start gunning for medals are generally the guys who start to take these things seriously, and start spending that extra money... but they do so out of choice.

More mags is gooder. Would recommend at least 4 in Production and Standard.

Open and Classic have their own special needs.

Adding to Psychosis' equipment list - a start off basic one
Gun to suit your chosen division
    Eye pro
    Ear pro
Decent holster / rig (No iwb stuff please)
Mag holders - loading quickly out of pant pockets in a speed orientated game is well, hampering.

Then he did not touch on etiquette - a very important part of the game
If not shooting, scoring, have just shot and reloading mags or on standby - you patch and pick up brass (and return to the relevant shooter). Nothing pisses sqaudmates off more is a guy who does NOTHING and perhaps steals brass.

No one cares if you are slow, or new, or both. Every one cares if you are a safe shooter.

Thanks for the update and info, guys. Like SafeAction's request, I will also be reading this thread with interest and would very much like to give IPSC a go at some stage.

Please continue to post interesting info and requirements etc.

As for scoring comming from Sadpa, an important note: shoot throughs don't count. So hitting a no shoot would mean a mike and the penalty.

    @Psychosis, thank you.

Any estimates on current club fees, ngpsa fees and national association fees?
