    Default No4 rifle disassembly.

Need some advice. I need to disassemble my No4 Enfield. The cross bolt just above the trigger has a nut that rotates when the bolt is turned. There are two recesses in the washer that can be used to secure the washer in place when unscrewing the cross bolt.

Now I used to have a modified screwdriver but have misplaced it. I stuffed up another screwdriver today in an attempt to grind one to size and stripped my moer. Does anyone know if this tool can be bought?

Why do you need to remove it?

Is it the cross bolt/screw just above to the back of the trigger, or the bigger one a bit above the trigger through the timber?

I you only want to remove the trigger, you should be fine without removing the one through the timber.

FYI, for enfield "custom tools" I found modifying old socket/bit drivers easier than bubba screwdrivers :)

This is the tool you need.

I made mine from an old bit driver socket.

The one through the wood above the trigger only provides a bit of cross-bracing to the wood, which otherwise has a tendency to split there. It is not necessary (or desirable) to remove it when stripping the rifle.

Thanks chaps. For some reason my stock was not moving so I assumed it was the cross bolt. Having a look at what vratvark mailed me it could have been me trying to pull it off wrong.

The tool VV posted is for dismantling the bolt.

You are correct Peter - picture is for bolt disassembly-tool.

For the cross bolt nut I made "tool" out of an old 6mm flat bit.
Works like a charm, thou I have never had a reason to use it to remove the cross bolt...

Ok some feedback. I wasn't being such a muppet, the crossbolt needed to come out to take the stock off. It went through a recess in the ring where the butt stock attaches too behind and slightly below where the trigger is pinned in place. Vratvark that tool you made up for me worked like a charm.
