He didn't comment on the stats / figures / bull , but on a related topic.
He is saying that there are so many reporters who interview gang members / hitmen / other underworld figures in person and get these guys to spill the beans out on their crimes, but the police are unable / unwilling to find these same guys that a reporter managed to find and interview.
Maybe inspired by the gangsters referenced in the airtcle, but not related to the stats/ bull.

You are four times more likely to be paralyzed by gun show wound in the Cape Flats, than hit by a train while riding in a taxi that is jumping the closed crossing.
