Re: Forgive me for i have sinned(bought 30-06, have 308)
Would have to pay in for another calibre. Only could get the 30-06 at that price.
Wife shows no interest in hunting. Nephews join me from time to time.

The 308 and 30-06 does exactly the same thing.
Pay in and get something else.

Re: Forgive me for i have sinned(bought 30-06, have 308)
Saying the 308 does what the 3006 does is like saying the 30 30 does what the 308 does or that the 3006 does what the 300H&H does.
This does not make sense to me but yes there is a grey overlapping area.
I have both and pretty well do as Pirate suggested.
However,i have lots of rifles going from small caliber to large so am spoiled for choice.
On the other hand,if i owned a 308 only,i would not buy an "06 or if i only owned an "06 i would not buy a 308.Both are mid range 30 calibers [which outclass the 270] . I would rather look at something small in 22 centre fire or something bigger in the 9.3/375 class.

Sorry that statement of mine was incorrect, let me correct.
If you are a bushveld hunter, the 308 does exactly what the 30-06 does, just better.
And if anybody really wants to debate this you'll need to bring some real logic to the debate.

Re: Forgive me for i have sinned(bought 30-06, have 308)
Messor..you are being ambiguous by saying the 308 does things better in the bushveld than the 3006 does. 'Better' is a word that means nothing on its own.
If we really want to compare and we take a 200gr bullet at 2400fps which, you must agree would make a fine bushveld load, then there is nothing to choose between them. The 308 is running fairly hot and the '06 is idling along, but yes they can both do it.
Incremental 'better' maybe? Little less recoil with the 308?
Like i said, there is a grey overlapping area that comes into play, which is also true in the comparison of other different calibers/bullet weights.
So,while i have not brought real logic to the debate,i will end by saying that the 308 will allways be yapping at the heels of the '06.
This yapping is however pretty effective.
