    Gary, this statement as well.
I am not sure what you mean with this.

What edge does it have in similar weight over the 308, speed?
Again, read my post, your 06 when shooting the same bullet will not outperform an 08 in hunting scenarios, it's one of the great fallacies of our time, something many people cling onto dearly.

    Messor...take a 150gr bullet as an eg.

Do you think that an animal at 100m is going to know the difference between that bullet being fired from a 308 or an '06? You say no.

    So lets take a 150gr bullet from a 6.5,a 270,a 30 30,a 7x57,a 7x64,a 303...i could go on for a while,but you get the picture.

Does not make all these calibers redundant because you have a 308.

Each and every caliber has its little special attraction or use.

Keep the best fitting rifle/most accurate rifle. Calibers are boring they all work within their limits....accuracy is sexy

Nee ouboet, don't take me on with something I agree with you on :)

Lets just pause, I told you I would throw anything into the bout, even while I was doing it just out of pure enjoyment of the debate, nothing meant in bad spirit.
You know I can debate an Impala out of the mouth of a hungry lion.
But please understand what I typed was based on studies, not my own opinion, hence it wasn't hard at all to prove my point, it's just not something that's soft on the ears for many.

I'm no fool when it comes to ballistics, and the old six with heavy high BC bullets is no toy in the hands of someone who is not recoil sensitive, like myself.

I wrote that specific post with the sole purpose of trying to get under your skin, knowing you are my friend, knowing you would either curse your dog or drink another whiskey while speaking french at me.
One day when I'm all grown up I'll buy myself an 06, but in the meantime don't dismiss my posts as nonsense, most(ok SOME) of them are technically correct.

    Keep well

    Back on topic.

Pirate have it the other way around.

If you intend on keeping both, use the 08 slow and heavy in the bush.
Use strong high BC bullets in the old six on the plains for any game, like wildebeest or eland.

I always look at the 308 / 3006 argument in the same way I look at luxury cars in a segment. BMW 3 series, Merc C class, Lexus IS series...they're all amazing vehicles, all (last time I looked) rear wheel drive, and all available in some engine up to around 3.5L.. Merc and BMW has German engineering (Merc not so much today)...those guys that did stuff like the V rockets and Tiger tanks, and we know from a certain movie how 'Murica fared against them... Lexus is Japanese...quest for zero defect and all that...

My dad is a Mercedes man, while I am partial to Lexus myself... it's about personal choice...

One of my best friends and hunting buddy shoots a 308. I shoot a 30-sukses. Due to lack of time to reload I just used good quality factory ammo, Sako Hammerhead bonded core, he used monolithic Barnes reloads. Guess what...

Both our blesbuck ended up on the bakkie equally dead :)

Thank you Messor and pre 64 for great reading!!!

    p.S a 30-06 with a 220 gr bullet is not for everyone.
