Default CAVEAT EMPTOR - "MAGPUL" COUNTERFEIT MAGS

Be aware that there are counterfeit and/or look alike and/or copies of Magpul mags coming into the country.

If you see new apparently "MAGPUL" mags for a low price be careful that you are not purchasing counterfeit products. Buy your Magpul stuff from an authorised or trusted source.

You may be tempted at the price to give them a go but I would not since I am sure that the marterials used and construction is of the mags sub-par and not the same quality as with Magpul mags.

I am not sure yet if these mags are un-packaged or packaged in counterfeit packaging as well.

I have been told that Magpul is aware of the counterfeit mags.

You can trust them and thank you for your support - we import Magpul form the USA and we have export permits from the USADoS for it .

Afaik the counterfait mag thing is a new development for SA but since Magpul is aware of it, it probably surfaced in the USA already.

Yep. The price I have heard was just below R300 per mag.

I have not seen one so I cannot comment on how they differ - in the pictures I saw they are look-a-like.

    Caveat Emptor.

We'll have to wait and see how this plays out once they are available for sale.

There is plenty fake Magpul stuff coming in via guys buying from WISH.
I will not buy quality kit unless it comes from a quality dealer that I trust.

Just do a google on identifying fake Magpul XXX

The sights are easy as Magpul only sells singles, where as the fakes are boxed as sets.
The fakes also have a magpul logo, whereas the real deals says Magpul.
There is mold flashing as well as a few other things.

Leaving aside the fact that it's utterly iilegal to tout fake products and that for that reason alone the stuff should be seized and destroyed, does there seem to be a material difference in quality? It seems to be very difficult to see any real differences with the eye. One wonders why they don't just create their own brand then.

Imo because their product is not comparable quality wise and they therefore ride on the Magpul product look too make people think it is the same thing.

They could have made a completely different look mag with different features and it would have been fine although buyers would maybe still buy something that may be cheaper and unknown at their own peril.

Magazines for magazine fed guns are critical components and it would be obtuse imo for anyone to rely on taking a chance on sub par mags for anything other than low level competing in gun sports or range plinking.

This thread reminded me of another industry also taking on counterfeit products in a unpleasant (for the parties counterfeiting the stuff).

SEMA 2016: Alleged Counterfeiters Busted by U.S. Marshals - http://www.automobilemag.com/news/se...erfeit-booths/

Let's hope the same route is followed here :)
