    Default Gifted an expired firearm

    Hi gents
my uncle has just given me a colt detective special in .38

white card has lapsed (he has already been to the dfo etc and was told to keep it in the safe)

he does however still have the blue/ID book license

What would the easiest route be for me on this? This will be my BUG gun, the deposit i paid on the astra will now be used to buy a .22 rifle

    Thanks in advance

My understanding is that until the final con. court judgement regarding firearms with expired licences they have to be stored in a safe and may not be traded in any way.

The expired white cards and the old green cards are 2 different things.

AFAIK : It is a valid license, the white card do not over ride it's validity.
Use the details of the green license to apply for the FA.

Could be wrong. But the moment you went and changed your green card over to the white one.
The Green one can no longer be used. The green one that still is in effect is only the people who never renewed to white.
Because CFR would have changed your details regarding that you know fall on white license on their system.
Sure you will be able to show at a dealer. But on CFR side pretty sure they see you as on white license.

I went to hand in a 271 yesterday. And asked the DFO regarding renewals.
There was actually an officer there at the time currently doing inspections at all stations regarding those 30 lost firearms.
Any case they said they accept renewals if in time. Before the 90 days.
If your in the 90 days before expiry. They will accept it. But not making promises.
If expired and you missed completely renewal. They will not accept it.
He said they wont come to your house yet to get it. But recommend it being stored by them.
He then also said off course no one yet has done the store by them yet.
As all are waiting to hear the appeal.

According to the 2009 ruling by Prinsloo, all green licenses are valid regardless of whether you renewed or not.
It's been asked and answered many times on the GOSA facebook page, so I'm pretty sure all green licenses are valid.

What is implications of the ruling this year regarding licences not expiring?
As far as I understand it, all licences (white or green are valid regardless of expiry dates etc until SAPS wins the case in a higher court...?
