First ever postal item in south Africa was a letter left in a tree in mossel bay in 1500 and took 3 months to get to Portugal.

My recently received parcel was sent from China in March and arrived last week. So thanks to our current governments mismanagement our postal service is now double as slow as it was in its inception 500 years ago!

By way of update.
It's long past the 48 hour response time that I was given in SAPO's automated reply to my e-mail asking, 'where is my parcel ?'
It would also seem that CEO Mark Barnes is either too busy [or too important ?] to reply to my e-mail to him asking the same question .... Or perhaps he's still on a well earned holiday ?

I got a out of office reply from Marks e-mail.

I received a reply. My package hasn't been scanned into the SAPO system yet. So who knows where it is

... not just parcels, normal postage as well. Envelope mailed 2 July 2018 from Johannesburg, received in Pretoria 17 January 2019.

Yes those dates are correct.
