Churchill
I watched this and expected more.
When I watched Thatcher, one came out knowing much more about her and like or dislike her one had to admire her.
With this movie Churchill come out less that he is believed to be.
One also wonders just how influential Smuts was on critical issues.
Anybody seen this?live out your imagination , not your history.

Re: Churchill
I've watched it, and came out with the same sort of feelings as you.
I believe the movie attempts to show that he was in fact just a man, and had his own demons. Although if you have done any reading on him it is quite well known that he was not the same man at the beginning of the war as he was at the end.
The Smuts connection was a surprise to me, and I also wondered the same thing as you with regards to his influence.
I found a good companion to this movie is a film called Downfall, which focuses on Hitlers last days. What I liked mostly is that they tried to keep the film subjective.

Re: Churchill
Smuts was the man selected by Churchill to take over if he ever died during the war and affirmed by parliament. We tend to forget just how significant of an international statesman he was.

Re: Churchill
I watched it and felt similarly. I almost felt disappointed, as if the picture I had built up in my mind had not been portrayed as I would have liked(subjective).
The Smuts depiction was interesting.
