Re: Clearing agent required !!!!
I can guarantee you with basically 99.9% certainty that if your invoice says Brownells on Cape Mail Customs will block it.
I ordered a plastic box/container. Not even for ammo storage or firearm part storage.
Merely to organize tools in from Brownells.
The guy at Customs called a guy wearing a police overall who inspects.
He told me its from Brownells it weapon parts. We even had the item open eventually.
I showed him on description and photos on package its not firearm related.
He wanted to know nothing. Just said sorry from Brownells.
I ended up getting Itac Permit. Who thought its silly for plastic item.
I spoke to SARS Customs who gave me codes. Who thought its silly.
And then I also had to pay clearing Agent R350.
Clearing agent just sends them email to confirm what Itac permit says.
Ridiculous.
Any case ive never waited longer then 48 hours for Itac permit.
Maybe I just have correct email people for them.
When I bought in Rifle Chasis earlier this year. Which was Firearm parts.
I just had Itack. But DHL did clearing when it came in.
DHL from Canada was CA$80 Which was R750.
But it included clearing it and shipping with in 1 week from Canada.
So in effect Bargain. If you deduct the R500 you have to pay independent people for clearing work.

Re: Clearing agent required !!!!
Hi Wild Ranger.
I also had to go the 'clearing agent route' for parts for my cz-brno.
DHL shipped the parts from Czechoslovakia so I used them.
They put the wrong code on the ITAC form and I ended up having to get the ITAC permit myself.
Customs however would not release the parts to me but only to DHL.
I ended having to pay DHL around ZAR1000 just to deliver the parts to me...and I live about 15 minutes from OR Tambo !
Regards.
Keith.

Re: Clearing agent required !!!!
Hi Havoc, thank you for your help, I've managed to get hold of a clearing agent through a member "Kayback" The clearing agent will be charging R450 for clearing fees, R75 for police clearance, R175 for VAT and R150 for Duty = grand total of R850 for 3 x pistol magazines !!!

Re: Clearing agent required !!!!
The Custom Duty on Firearm stuff is 15%.
And they seem to charge VAT on item plus the 15% Custom Charge.
So its Actually 17.1% Custom fee on Firearm goods.
That R75 is the Fee Customs charge for them to inspect your parcel.
So they charge you , So they can open item to see how much they must charge you more.

Re: Clearing agent required !!!!
Can someone actually explain what the R450 fee entails? It doesn't seem very... useful. Or anything you can't do yourself? What's the reason we have to get a 3rd party involved.
