How many rounds before you won't carry a handgun?
Picking up on another thread, how many rounds would you put through a handgun before retiring it and not carry it further. Assuming you service it as per schedule.

I think with maintenance and replacing the springs when necessary, you will get a lot of shots downrange and stoll keep it reliable.

I doubt that the average handgun owner will shoot a gun to death, especially not if the gun is serviced regularly.
So I will happily carry a gun with a high round count.

Re: How many rounds before you won't carry a handgun?
It rather depends on the gun and a few other things...
If it's a Astra 38 snubby shooting +P loads all day. No
If it's a Glock 19 having 50K range rounds through it with good maintenance. Sure it's just about run in.

I would rather carry a well-used (high round count) gun that I have tested recently, than a pristine example with limited range history.

Re: How many rounds before you won't carry a handgun?
ToddG at pistoltraining.com put in excess of 91,000 +P and +P+ rounds through the P30, before a tiny bit of the frame cracked off and they decided to rather call it quits.
I'd be ridiculously surprised if I put 10k standard/range rounds through mine yet. So..... zero f*cks given for puny gun "round limits".

Re: How many rounds before you won't carry a handgun?
Its like this,
The avarage gun owner wont shoot thier carry gun to the point that even regular spring matenince is a huge problem,
The sports person who is doing high round counts almost always has a dedicate sports pistol for such a purpose which does see high round counts.
There are exceptions of course but i think they are rare.

Re: How many rounds before you won't carry a handgun?
The number of rounds is not as important as maintaining the reliability.
Do what you need to maintain the reliability, unless the problem can't be fixed then you change the gun.
If your gun loses reliability after a certain amount of rounds, replace the parts to make it reliable again and it's good to carry on.
For example, some revolvers tend to light strike after a certain useage. Change of spring and some hammer shims, and carry on, no need to get a new revolver.
Every brand has it's own peculiarities, and some maintain reliability for a longer round count than others.
If you plan to shoot a lot, pick a brand that has a lot of spares easily available locally.

Re: How many rounds before you won't carry a handgun?
The late ToddG also reccomended having a second identical handgun should the primary fail. The P30 did incredibly well but it is certainly not indestructible as some believe. A friend broke a firing pin when it passed just over 10 000 rounds. It took him a while to find a replacement locally but what he did have was a R17000 paper weight. His old Vektor SP1 Became his primary then.
Few things I learnt from his episode
1.) Guns, regardless of brand , can fail.
2.) Make sure you have spares for your choice.
3.) Before buying a fancy AR/ long Gun, buy a second handgun.
4.) I rather have two Glocks/CZ, or any brand with backup than one gun with no local backup that supposedly won't fail.
