    Default Aya 12 gauge

I recently bought a sxs Aya shotgun in 12 gauge. Because it looked good. I don't know a lot about shotguns but picked it up for very little. I contacted Aya via the web to get a bit more info on the gun by giving them the serial number. According to them this gun was manufactured in 1955 and is a Model 400. I looked on the web but cannot find any information on the Aya model 400. Is there somebody that can help with some info on this specicfic model? It is a side-lock without ejectors. Waiting for the licence so I don't have pics to share.

Side lock with double triggers. Nicely engraved. Matador is a box lock with single trigger?

if you should find a good used double trigger AYA 4, 400 or a 4/53 in the European theatre, you should jump at it.

Currently, I own a cased AYA 400E, 12 bore, circa 1961 that does all a field gun should do. It swings well, points and shoots like a good Spanish attempt at a British field gun

In my opinion, they are greatly under valued at this time...

A sidelock is pretty much always a higher grade gun, a new Model 2 is over USD 5000 in the US, probably ZAR 100,000 or thereabouts. If this is in nice shape and fits you well it is most certainly a good bargain. I suspect it is stocked in the English style? It sounds like you have done well!

    Blou_iguana,

Thank you for the info. It has got a pistol grip stock, not sure what "English style" means. I'll read up on how to post a pic. Got one side-on pic from the auction catalogue that I'll try and post here.

Hope this works, pic of shotgun under discussion:

Willem1, an English style stock does not have a pistol grip as in the picture above, but the stock is in a straight line from the trigger guard to the bottom of the stock.

If you gun looks anything like the grade of gun shown in the pic, then you have done very well!

    Good morning,

I heard yesterday that my application was approved. Anybody knows how long it takes for the lisence card to be printed and ready? I shall post some clear pics of the shotgun once in hand. Still cannot find proper info on a Aya Model 400.

    Congratulations!
My last card took two weeks to get from Provincial Office (where they print the cards in Belville) out to my little country town in the Boland.
    Sweet
