Pigs feeding off a carcass. How often does it occur? It has been documented, but as far as I know mostly when "real" predators and scavengers were not around?

I've seen warthog chewing on a road kill jackal carcass just outside Dwaalboom. On the farm we regularly catch warthog in our cages that we set for predators. I always thought it was because of the "pensmis" but that is purely speculation.

I have trailcam photos of warthog eating meat from a carcass, I am not sure how often it occurs, certainly not as often as with bushpig. We have lots of scavengers, crows (as in the photo), pale chanting goshawk, black eagle and black backed jackal, we also have free ranging cheetah and, occasionally, leopard.

All of the above species hunts, very successfully in some cases, but they do scavenge given the chance.
