    Yup, Skype is awesome.

You gonna cough for employment agencies though. Be prepared to have your degree's dissected, list of all subjects verified etc... Have them all certified and and and...

If you are looking at NZ or Aus PM me your email address and I'll put you in contact with my other mate who is living there now. He is a full CIMA in Sydney, also born and bred Saffa been in Aus for 14 months now.

I have been thinking of emigrating for some time now. I have friends and relatives on almost every continent. With modern social media we get to share experiences etc. so it is possible to somewhat keep up to date with happenings over there.

I also see what I have here, the good and the bad. Sometimes we get hung up on the bad and miss all the good things. We should concentrate to notice both.

Thinking of countries to emigrate to, we tend to focus on the good thing we know of these places, either from personal experience or from media. The bad things tend to get missed ... untill you actually live there.

Having considered various options, the most attractive places to me are still Botswana and Namibia. And being close to SA, the problems faced there are not to far off either. Probably not worth the cost of moving, especially if you are doing it to get away from our problems. And taking my guns there will be another problem...

Any other place with a "nanny state" attitude is out of the question anyway. That scratches several options off the list.

SA will deteriorate for some time to come. I do expect the gubbermunt apparatus to collapse under it's own inflated incompetence. In many spheres it is disfunctional already. The new puppet's mid-term budget speech just confirmed that for me. There should be a crash in the foreseeable future, after which there will be a "rebirth" of the country again. Times will be tough, but not forever. If you have some idea of what to expect, you can be better prepared to make it through. I believe many people share my view and i have tangible reasons why I say so.

So the decision really is, do I want to stay and help our beloved, blood stained country through this, or do I leave and let others fight my battle for me. If I were unattached, that would be easy. Having a bunch of dependants makes it much more difficult to decide.

    If I didn't have kids I wouldn't have left.

We lived really comfortable in SA and had massive safety precautions etc. But my kids couldn't carry a gun or a knife and really couldn't do much to protect themselves.

When we did the old pro's and con's list there were more pro's to stay then cons's as we could always send the kids away one day to study elsewhere in the world etc.

But I see how hard it is on other parents who's kids have all moved out of SA and only see them on Skype or once every few years in person.

If you don't plan on having kids are sorted financially and don't mind the crime I wouldn't leave.

We did plenty of research on various countries before we decided on NZ. I have family in UK and Czech Republic. You couldn't pay me enough money to move to the UK.

Czech republic is beautiful but the language is a massive barrier if you go outside Prague the majority of people dont speak English. Its also not a place both me and my wife felt like we could call home. Plus its fucken cold in winter.

Australia was never on the cards.

My wife nearly got a job in Canada but we decided against that due to the weather.

I would have loved to move to Texas did a shit load of research but my wife was not on board with America from the get go. So we found a happy medium NZ.

What pisses me off now is my wife was there for business last week and she loved Dallas and Houston. Who knows maybe America is still on the cards.

But only another 4 years to go until we obtain NZ citizenship then we might reevaluate.

With regards to finding employment before you come over. I would really if funds allow come and have a look at the country you want to immigrate too. Both me and my wife loved NZ from the day we first arrived. So for us it was an easy move after that as we knew what we were letting ourselves in for.

My wife is a chartered accountant she got a job on the look see holiday we were on and after that we sorted our life out back in SA and 3 months later we were back in NZ permanently.

What I have noticed with the larger corporates is that they want that Full CIMA or CA candidate.

But, you never know. Give it a bash, too many variables to take into account. My gut is saying you shouldn't struggle. I am no expert though.

My mate (born and bred South African) started work in Auckland on 1 Aug this year with Ford motor company (moved his whole family over), no degree or diploma. He has matric and a few short courses through Ford. 33 years old but he grafts hard and is loyal, good solid chap, he went for the interviews and the people saw the good in him and he got a decent job there.

Absolutely agree with this, attitude is everything.

2 things in particular when moving to NZ if you want to be happy:

    1. Avoid Auckland at all costs, it sucks the life out of you, you will end up living to work rather than working to live. Property is insane (second highest in the world) , it is overpopulated for its landmass and congested, I get angry just driving through it.

    2. Don't expect it to be like it was in SA, it just won't be, if you keep trying to turn it into the way it was you will always be disappointed and unhappy. This is where the attitude comes in, accept and adapt to the new life, accept the shortcomings and be grateful for the advantages.
It's very easy to slip into life here and forget about why you moved and only focus on the things you miss from SA. This is often where people fall down.

On a lighter note, loving the Sunshine Coast!

Another move might be in the cards in the near future!

I pulled the trigger just over two years ago. It involved a fuckload of paperwork and a decent amount of US$ paid to a specialist immigration lawyer in LA.

On 1 February the lady on the other side of the very thick glass in the US Consulate in Sandton said: "Sir, your visa has been approved". We're flying on Tuesday to clock in so that Green Cards can be issued, but will only permanently leave end of July/beginning of August.

For lifestyle reasons we're settling in Denver, Colorado. Yes, you may only have 15 round mags for your AR (or any firearm for that matter), but you can still buy handguns (I carry Glock 19 anyway, so more than 15 rounds is almost irrelevant to me), ARs and bolt actions to your heart's content. And Colorado has some of the best hunting in the US, bar Alaska.

Plus zol is 100% legal in the state of Colorado.
