    Default Anschutz semi auto .22

    Good morning everyone.

So I was informed last week that my grandfathers Anschutz .22 will be passed on to me. As far as I know it is a 520 / 525 model. I have not seen the rifle in a while, so I can't really comment on it's current condition. However as far as I know the rifle has been used only a few times, and most damage if any, should be cosmetic.

Now to get to the point. I will have to apply for DSS to get a license for the rifle. Does anyone here have any experience with this particular model? And will it be suitable for sport shooting?

And lastly, is it worth it to spend 4k on licensing fees for this rifle. (This will be my first firearm license)

This is what my local gun shop quoted me.
    Training: R1200
    Competency: R1000
    License: R800

Plus +- R600 for NATSHOOT membership.

    Congrats on the rifle.
My dad also has the same Anschutz .22lr semi auto.
It is very accurate and lots of fun to shoot.

Only downside is the magazines. I ordered 3 mags from the factory a few years back and it was expensive and you only get the 10-round mags.
I have searched everywhere for magazines(especially the extended ones that I know exist but is as rare as hen's teeth). I know there is another make of rifle available in the USA that uses the same mags and you used to get extended mags for that rifle, but I can't remember the name now.

If you no where to get extended mags, of just the standard mags, please let me know.

Bought one from an estate recently. just love it. it was bought at Kings in Durban in 1961, and clearly the previous owner cared for it as much as I do. Even got the original Weaver scope with it.

    Thanks for the replies.

Now that you mention it, they did say something about the magazine, will have to check if it's still there ( or whatever the case may be). I think there were 2 - 3 mags for it, but I will have to check on that. My uncle also added a scope, however I don't know what it is.

Why do they say License R800?
    Its R140 at SAPS.
You will have to pay Competency at SAPS. But Long time back for me on that. Bat thats also around 120-140.

    What is the 1200 training?

You need to get a competency certificate from a Accredited company.
Reckon that could be about R1000.

Natshoot is 375 a year. Youll have to pay about 200 join fee.
But also will have to be dedicated with them.
Just dedicated Sport test with book I think is about 400.
But if you do it. Do Dedicated hunter and sport at once.
    About R100 more.

Good to know about the prices. As far as I know they also help with the motivation (not that I know if it actually helps)maybe the R640 is admin fees? If that is so, its a bit crazy.

The R1200 training is a pre- competency certificate? and the competency itself R1000.

I see the new Natshoot sport test is R570 max.

Never heard of a pre-competency certificate. Certainly not a legal requirement for licencing.
