Spraypainting brass for easier collection?
I lose a lot of brass because i cant see it in the veld / ground colors. Any opinions on maybe touching them with a bright color spraypaint to see them easier?

I’m fairly confident it will flake off and make mess inside your gun.

A brass bag might work
What gun are you shooting and how many rounds etc?

I use shade cloth from Builders Warehouse. If you aren't running from spot to spot, it works well as the brass all lands on the shade cloth and picking it up is super easy. Used it on Sunday at Steel Challenge and didn't lose a single one.

I usually set up a gazebo with a net on the side to catch the brass, but sometimes I just pop in for 50 rounds or so and dont set up the gazebo for 10 min. Also if you do moving and shooting excercises. I shoot a Beretta mod84 and usually do about 200 rounds 9mmk, 100 7.65 etc.

Re: Spraypainting brass for easier collection?
When we (wife and I) started sport shooting, we used to coat the rear (headstamp area) with a paint marker to ID our brass and make collection easier. Afterthe first cleaning of the guns, we stopped this process as it would enter the firing pin area, causing a potential buggerup. We now use a permanent marker with great success.
I would not trust a painted case.

As mic said, the spray paint comes off and messes up your gun. Don't do it.
A permanent marker leaves a much thinner layer of paint, and it sticks better to the brass, so the residue in the gun is minimal.
The marking process is mostly limited to the case head area and intended to identify the brass, not find it. I find that shiny clean brass is easier to find in bright sunshine, as the sunlight will reflect off the brass if you look at the right angle.
Finding brass is not an issue on a cleared ground surface. On grass, and especially dry grass, it is almost impossible. The dry grass has the same colour as brass. I would advise you not to shoot where your brass can land in the grass. Clear your range of all grass and other organic matter.
If you can't clear the range, then a metal detector might be your only option.
There was an article in a Magnum magazine many years ago explaining the process of chemically colouring your brass. This might help, but only if you can see the brass. If it hides under a blade of grass, as they are known to do, the colour will not make any difference.

Google: coloring brass, you can chemically color them but my question is what does it do to your brass in the line of hardness etc?
